About

Welcome to Design Improvised!

This is a blog dedicated to easy DIY home decor and entertaining projects that can make a big impact! Almost all the DIY projects on this blog can be done in 1-2 hours for under $20!

A little more about me...

I'm a Wharton educated business strategy consultant turned design blogger. Now rather than staying up late working on a client PowerPoint presentation, I am staying up late to spray paint or Mod Podge after my kids go to bed. We recently moved to San Antonio, TX after seven great years in Chicago. My husband Ross and I have two little girls - Stella (age 4) and Hazel (age 2).

I love improvising on ideas I've come across to make them my own. Being a mom of young children, I particularly like projects that make a big impact with minimal time and money invested! This blog chronicles my latest adventures in decorating my home, crafting, and entertaining, often with my daughters in tow.

In addition, I offer room design services for clients looking to give a space in their house a new life. I strive to find chic and inexpensive pieces and emphasize personal accents to make the space their own. If you are interested in my design services, you can check out my portfolio of room designs and feel free to shoot me an email.

I love hearing from readers, so please do send me a note with any comments or suggestions for the blog!

Best,

Haeley

  1. I love your blog. I happened to stumble upon while searching pinterest. I just read your "Early Fall Wine Dinner" post and found it quite interesting that your last name is Giambalvo...I am also a Giambalvo. (My maden name) You don't hear that name too often. (unless your related!)

  2. I didn't realize you live in Chicago! I love Wicker Park and I'm in Chicago all the time because my husband grew up around the city. We should meet up next time I'm in town!

    1. Hi Denae - thanks so much for your comment. It may be the device you are using to view my blog. I use a plugin called Disqus for my comments and it sometimes doesn't show up on mobile phones. If you can, try viewing it on a different device or using a different browser and see if that makes a difference. Thank you!
